Navigating your hub
Once you’ve joined a hub, you’ll see the hub’s main interface with a sidebar on the left and the content area on the right.
The sidebar
The sidebar is your main navigation. From top to bottom, it shows:
- Your profile: your display name and avatar in this hub
- Hub home: click the hub name to return to the hub’s home page
- Direct messages: your private conversations with other members
- Discover rooms: find and join new rooms in this hub
- Public rooms: open chat rooms available to all hub members
- Secured rooms: rooms that require identity verification to access
Click any room in the sidebar to open it. The currently active room is highlighted.
Hub home page
Click the hub name or icon at the top of the sidebar to return to the hub’s home page. Here you’ll find:
- The hub’s banner and description
- Contact information for the organization running the hub
Discover rooms
Navigate to the Discover rooms page in the sidebar to browse all available rooms in the hub. Click the Join button to enter a room.
Your hub profile
In each hub you have a unique profile. Your display name and avatar are specific per hub. Changing them in one hub does not affect other hubs. Click your avatar in the sidebar to update your profile.
Rooms
Rooms are chat spaces within a hub where members communicate about specific topics, projects, or activities. There are several types of rooms.
Public rooms
Public rooms are open to all hub members. Anyone can join and participate freely. These are used for general discussion, announcements, or community topics.
To join a public room, go to Discover rooms and click the room you want to join.
Secured rooms
Secured rooms require you to verify certain attributes about yourself using the Yivi app before you can access them. For example, a room might require proof that you’re over 18, that you work in a certain profession, or that you’re a member of a specific organization.
-
Find the secured room on the Discover rooms page. Secured rooms are marked with a shield icon.
-
Click the room to request access. The Yivi app will open and ask you to disclose the required attribute (e.g., your age range or professional registration).
-
Confirm in Yivi. If you meet the requirements, you’re granted access.
Tip
Direct messages
Direct messages (DMs) let you have private conversations with other hub members. You can start a one-on-one conversation or create a group message.
To start a new conversation, open the Direct messages section in the sidebar and click the new message icon. Search for the member(s) you want to chat with and start the conversation.
Leaving a room
To leave a room, right-click on the room in the sidebar and select Leave room from the context menu. You can rejoin public rooms at any time from Discover rooms. For secured rooms, you’ll need to verify your attributes again.
Messaging
Rooms in PubHubs support a variety of messaging features to help you communicate effectively.
Sending messages
Type your message in the text field at the bottom of the room and press Enter to send.
Tip
Replying and threads
Hover over a message and click the reply icon to reply to a specific message. Your reply will be visually linked to the original message, making conversations easy to follow.
You can also choose to reply in a thread. Threads are separate conversation spaces attached to a message, useful for longer discussions without cluttering the main room. Click a threaded message to open the thread view in the sidebar on the right.
Reactions
You can react to any message with an emoji. Hover over a message and click the reaction icon to pick an emoji.
Message types
Beyond regular text, PubHubs supports several special message types:
-
Files and images: upload files or images using the attachment button (+ icon) next to the text field. Images are displayed inline; other files appear as download links.
-
Signed messages: you can digitally sign a message with your Yivi credentials to prove your identity or professional role. Recipients can see which attributes were disclosed. This is useful for official statements or verified advice.
-
Polls: create a multiple-choice poll for quick group decisions. Members can vote and see results in real time.
-
Schedulers: propose date and time options for scheduling a meeting or event. Members indicate their availability.
To create a poll or scheduler, click the + button next to the text field and choose the type.
Room sidebar
Each room has a sidebar on the right with several tabs:
- Members: see who’s in the room, including their roles (admin, moderator, member)
- Search: search through all messages in the room
- Library: browse all files and images shared in the room
- Threads: view all active conversation threads
On mobile, the sidebar slides in from the right when you tap the sidebar icon.
